From Winter to Spring
5 Simple Steps to Repurposing Your Wardrobe
The sun is out and spring is here which means it’s time to say goodbye to winter coats, leather gloves and knitted hats. The thought of diving into your closet to revamp your wardrobe can be overwhelming, and if you are anything like me and did MUCHO online shopping this winter, you are now on a tight summer budget.
The good news? Take a closer look at your clothing from this past season and you’ll notice there are a ton of pieces you can repurpose for the warmer months. This is a great way to save money and justify all of those pricey winter purchases.
1) Leather Jackets:
The leather jacket is one of my favourite items in my closet. This is partially because I love black but also because leather jackets give any outfit that extra edge you’ll need to look stylish and still be warm during the winter-to-spring transition. Wear your leather jacket with anything from dresses and shorts to ripped jeans or a maxi skirt.
2) Ankle Booties:
Once the weather warms up, we are usually eager to strap on our open toe shoes and spring sandals. But give a second thought to keeping your ankle booties around for a little longer. Boots come in tons of different styles and that makes it easier to wear them all year round. The low cut will make your outfit look light and casual but also provide an extra bit of height (for us short ladies). Most importantly they will add some sass to your outfit!
3) Knitted Sweaters/Ponchos/Cardigans
After spending a ton of money on cozy sweaters during the winter, the idea of stashing them in the back of your closet can be pretty depressing. Luckily, you can still get some great wear out of them. Try layering your oversized and comfy knits with a lightweight dress, pencil skirt or jean shorts. Just remember that balance is key, if you're wearing heavier items on top, keep it simple on the bottom.
4) Jeans and Pants
A major trend this spring is ankle-cropped pants. By rolling up the cuff on your trousers, wool pants or jeans, you are not only guaranteed to look amazing all season, but you will be able to repurpose all the pants from your winter wardrobe. Pair your bottoms with a cute pair of shoes and you are good to go!
As a minimalist, I am a firm believer in all things black, grey and white. Although they might seem too basic for spring, neutral colours are important wardrobe staples that can be worn all year round. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Try livening up your neutral clothing with bold patterns, coloured pieces and accessories.
